Sanvi adjusted the strap of her bag as she stood beside her mother in the hospital’s entrance lobby. The smell of antiseptic filled the air, mingling with the faint hum of distant conversations. Her mother had mentioned the appointment several times, but Sanvi hadn’t really thought much about it.
“You sure you’re fine going alone, mom?” Sanvi asked, still glancing at the sign above the hospital directory, trying to make sense of the endless departments.
Her mother nodded, adjusting her shawl. “Of course, beta. It’s just a routine check-up for my arthritis. We’ll be quick.”
Sanvi couldn’t help but notice how her mother seemed unusually calm about it. But then, the worry that had been nagging her. "If you need me, then just call me."
Her mother smiled faintly but didn’t answer immediately. "Vedarth works here. I'll be fine beta. But I didn’t mention it, did I?”
Sanvi blinked, surprised. "You never mentioned it, no. I thought he worked at a different place. "
Her mother laughed softly. “No, beta. He’s been working here for months now. Anyway, let’s head to the orthopedic department.”
Sanvi’s heart skipped slightly. Vedarth worked here? She had no idea. The revelation hit her harder than expected. But she shrugged it off. She didn’t have time to dwell on it. He’s just a flirt, she reminded herself, as they walked toward the waiting area.
It didn’t take long before they found a seat in the brightly lit waiting area. Sanvi was fiddling with her phone, scrolling aimlessly, when an unsettling noise broke her focus—a loud commotion from the corridor outside.
"Emergency! Trauma case! Stat!" a voice shouted, and before Sanvi could fully process what was happening, two paramedics rushed by with a stretcher carrying a patient, a man clearly in distress. Blood stained his shirt as the team worked quickly, moving him into the trauma unit.
Sanvi’s eyes followed them, and then she saw him—Vedarth.
He was striding down the corridor, his face set in determination, his doctor’s coat swaying slightly as he moved. There was no sign of the playful Vedarth she had met at the engagement. This was an entirely different person—focused, alert, and ready for action. His steps quickened as he approached the trauma team, his eyes scanning the patient with a sharp professionalism she hadn’t expected.
Sanvi’s breath caught in her throat. She didn’t realize how seriously Vedarth took his work, how deeply he was embedded in this environment.
Vedarth arrived at the patient’s side, and the rest of the world seemed to fade away for a moment as he took charge. “Prepare him for immediate chest X-ray,” he ordered without hesitation. His voice was steady, cutting through the chaos like a calm, controlled force.
Sanvi watched from a distance, still processing what she was witnessing. How could the same man who had been so teasing and lighthearted at the engagement suddenly turn into this... doctor? A man capable of saving lives?
As the emergency procedures unfolded, Sanvi’s mind raced. She thought back to their conversation at the engagement ceremony. Vedarth had mentioned his specialization, and it had definitely not been in trauma care. This patient was clearly in need of immediate attention, but Vedarth’s expertise lay elsewhere.
Once the initial emergency measures were completed, Vedarth spoke to the attending trauma surgeon, nodding in agreement. “The patient is stabilized. Send him to Cardiology for further management. I’ll ensure they get all the details.”
Sanvi blinked. He wasn’t even specializing in trauma care, yet he had handled the emergency with such ease. It was humbling.
The entire scene made her realize just how much more there was to Vedarth than she had initially thought. He wasn’t just some charming guy at a wedding; he was a doctor with skill, responsibility, and composure. And Sanvi had been so focused on his flirtation that she hadn’t truly seen him for who he was.
As the trauma team moved the patient, Vedarth glanced around and spotted Sanvi and her mother sitting a few yards away. He excused himself from the situation and walked toward them, his stride purposeful but casual.
"Sanvi," he greeted her, offering a warm smile. "I didn’t expect to see you here."
Sanvi quickly recovered from her stupor, but the awe she felt was still lingering in her eyes. "I... didn’t know you worked here," she managed, a little thrown off by his presence in this professional environment.
Vedarth’s lips quirked. “I keep things quiet about work. Don’t like to mix my personal life with... everything else.” He nodded toward her mother. “I hope you’re not too bored here?”
Sanvi’s mother chuckled softly. “Bored? No, no. We’re fine. Actually, Vedarth, I need to speak to you. It’s about my arthritis treatment. I’ve got an appointment today. Could you have a look at my prescription?”
Vedarth nodded, signaling for a nurse to attend to the patient that had just been transferred. Then he turned back to Sanvi’s mother with a reassuring smile. “Of course. Let me just see your prescription, and we’ll make sure you’re on the right medication.”
Sanvi felt a strange sense of pride for her mother, watching her confidently discuss her medical treatment with a doctor she knew. Meanwhile, Sanvi’s mind kept circling back to what she had witnessed earlier. Vedas was so much more than the flirt she’d written him off to be.
As Vedarth was reading through the prescription, a nurse approached, asking for assistance. “We’ve got an issue with the pharmacy stock. We’re running low on a certain medication—Lisinopril—and there’s some confusion over whether to use a generic substitute.”
Sanvi looked up instinctively, hearing the mention of Lisinopril, her mind ticking. She couldn’t help herself. “You should switch to the generic version. Lisinopril is well-established, but the generic has the same bioavailability. Just make sure to monitor the patient’s blood pressure regularly if you’re switching,” she said confidently.
Just then realization hit her and she gpt aware of her surroundings. She mentally slapped herself for speaking.
"I'm so sorry... I completely forgot i was in hospital and surrounded by professional doctors, pharmacists and nurses. I'm extremely sorry for intervention." She added and apologized.
The nurse blinked, surprised by her knowledge. “Are you a pharmacist?”
Sanvi smiled, her professional side coming to the forefront. “Yes, I’m in my final year. Just wrapping up my internship at Civil Hospital.”
Vedarth, who had been silently observing the exchange, raised an eyebrow. “Looks like I’m not the only one who knows their way around medical emergencies,” he said, a hint of admiration in his voice. “Drx. Sanvi, huh?”
Sanvi flushed slightly, not used to being in the spotlight like this. “It’s just basic knowledge. I’ve been studying pharmacology for years.”
Her mother, who had been watching the entire interaction, beamed with pride. “She’s got her head on straight. Sanvi’s the best in her field.”
Vedarth chuckled. “I’m starting to see that. Maybe next time I’ll call you in for consultations.” He shot her a teasing smile. “What do you think?”
Sanvi, still a bit taken aback by how much she had impressed him, managed a shy smile. “We’ll see.”
As the conversation continued, the barriers between Sanvi and Vedarth started to shift. She began to understand the man behind the charm—the professional, hardworking, and skilled doctor. She couldn’t deny that there was an undeniable attraction, but now it wasn’t just about flirtation. There was mutual respect.
Sanvi’s mother, ever the perceptive one, nudged her daughter lightly. “You see, Sanvi, the world isn’t just about charming smiles. There’s much more to people than what meets the eye.”
Sanvi, now deep in thought, couldn’t help but agree. She had seen a side of Vedarth today that she had never expected—a side that made her heart flutter, but this time for all the right reasons.

Some encounters shift the way we see people, and sometimes it takes a moment of clarity to realize there’s more beneath the surface than we first believed. For Sanvi, seeing Vedarth in his element—his true professional self—was a revelation she hadn’t expected. But in these unexpected moments, there’s room for growth, respect, and maybe even something more.
In the quiet of the hospital and the unspoken understanding that passed between them, Sanvi found herself at a crossroads of emotions. She’s learning, slowly, that what seemed like casual flirtation might hold the seeds of something deeper.
And as for Vedarth, the man who’s always been playful, maybe it’s time he shows Sanvi just how much more he has to offer.
Until next time—
With love,
